Spring Heeled Jack

Spring heeled Jack was a creature that terrorized London in 1837.  There were also sightings reported in Great Britain but the sightings have been concentrated in England, Scotland and Midlands.

People who claimed to see the entity says that the appearance of the creature is terrifying.  His eyes are red that looks like a red ball of fire, his chin, ears and nose are pointed.  Others who said to saw his hands claimed that their hands resemble a metallic object.

The first sighting of the Spring Heeled Jack was said to be in London and the last sighting was in Stoneleigh in 2012.  In October 1837, while Mary Stevens was taking the road to Clapham Common, a strange figure presented itself to her.  The phantom said to have a strong grip as it restraint her and kiss her in the face.  He also started to tear up his clothes which in the process were able to touch her flesh.  She claims that the creature’s touch is as cold as a corpse.

The creature was again sighted on the next day, this time on a coachman driving a carriage.  He reportedly jumped over the carriage that caused the coachman to lose focus and crash the carriage.  The coachman suffered a terrible injury on that incident.  There were witnesses on that day that said the creature can leap great heights and they said that they heard its laughter in a high pitched tone.

After a few months, Sir John Cowan held a public session regarding a complaint that he received.  The letter reads:

It appears that some individuals (of, as the writer believes, the highest ranks of life) have laid a wager with a mischievous and foolhardy companion, that he durst not take upon himself the task of visiting many of the villages near London in three different disguises — a ghost, a bear, and a devil; and moreover, that he will not enter a gentleman's gardens for the purpose of alarming the inmates of the house. The wager has, however, been accepted, and the unmanly villain has succeeded in depriving seven ladies of their senses, two of whom are not likely to recover, but to become burdens to their families. At one house the man rang the bell, and on the servant coming to open door, this worse than brute stood in no less dreadful figure than a spectre clad most perfectly. The consequence was that the poor girl immediately swooned, and has never from that moment been in her senses. The affair has now been going on for some time, and, strange to say, the papers are still silent on the subject. The writer has reason to believe that they have the whole history at their finger-ends but, through interested motives, are induced to remain silent.
There was also a report from The Brighton Gazette which relays a story about a gardener in Sussex which was terrified by an unidentified creature.  The news claimed that the Spring heeled jack has managed to invade Sussex.

The case of Jane Alsop is also related to the Spring heeled jack claiming that someone visited her and claimed that he was a police officer.  He apparently told her to bring a candle since they said that they already captured the phantom in their lane.  She noticed that the alleged police was wearing a cloak, and upon handling him the candle, he removed his cloak and reveal a frightening appearance.  8 days after, the 18 year old Lucy Scales shared his experience about the said creature.

The legend of the Spring Heeled Jack started to spread all over England and the neighbouring places.  The last reported case was on February 2012 by Scott Martin and his family; they allegedly sighted a dark figure with no features.
