Chedipe Vampire of India

Chedipe is a witch vampire of the Godavari River in India.  It means prostitute that is associated with devadasis who are often referred to as temple prostitutes.  This beast is also related to the undead who died during pregnancy or childbirth.  According to the legend, prostitutes have a higher likelihood of becoming this vampire creature.

 

How Do You Identify a Chedipe?

 

Most Chedipe would have the appearance of a woman with a nasty attitude. She was often depicted riding a tiger during nighttime.  She will search for the house of her prey. If the house door is locked, the door magically opens, and the creaure enters the house naked.  She will then cast a curse on the house residents, making them drowsy. They will eventually fall to sleep.  Once this happens, she will start to feed on the blood of all male residents of the house. 

 

How Does a Chedipe Choose Her Victim?

 

Some records state that the Chedipe only feasts on the blood of the most robust man. Others say that she only kills those men that she holds a grudge against.  In the morning, the victim would feel weak and intoxicated. If he does not get proper medication, the vampire will return every night until he dies due to massive blood loss.

 

Is a Chedipe a Succubus?

 

Like the succubus, the Chedipe also has an insatiable sexual urge.  She will have sexual contact with the man of the house, resulting in the wife's suspicion that her husband is having a relationship with another woman.  From this doubt will start the distrust and unfaithfulness that is a source of strength of the beast.  It is believed that the vampire can also feed on sadness and pain.    She can also pluck the tongue out of her victim in the blink of an eye and create a wound where she can place a stick that would result in burnt damage.

 

How to Defend Against Chedipe?

 

To protect yourself against the possible attack of a Chedipe, you need to get your house blessed by a priest. It must also be adorned with incense, mantras, and holy symbols. If you notice that a male person is showing signs of disorientation or intoxication without any apparent reason, you need to get him checked at once. It will prevent the Chedipe from returning to the house.
