Most Haunted Building in China: Chaonei no. 81

The Chaonei no. 81 is also commonly referred to as the Chaonei Church, is basically a house situated at the community of Chaoyangmen on the district of Dongcheng at Beijing, China.  It is made up of brick designed using the French-Baroque style in the early part of the 20^th century.  The local municipality has already designated it as a historic structure.  The place is renowned for being the most haunted structure in China.  Some spooky stories included in this haunted building would be the random disappearance and the story of the woman who committed suicide.

Chaonei No. 81:  Beijing’s Haunted Structure

A little is known about the history of the house.  It is totally unclear about who instructed the construction of the place and to what purpose.  There is a prevalent legend always associated with the house that it is owned by a Kuomintang officer who left the woman that committed a suicide on the house.  During the early history, the place is commonly stationed by different government agencies.  During the latter part of the 1960’s particularly during the Cultural Revolution, it was reported that the place served as a garrison of the Red Guards. The immediate departing of the group from the Chaonei no. 81 was also attributed to the ghost story.  As of today, the building is a property of the Roman Catholic Church.

The story about the haunted place is prevalent since the year 1970.  A local resident claimed that when she was a child, she will play together with her friends in the building, but no one will dare to come inside on their own.  She added that even the Red Guards who dwell in the area left the area due to the ghost.

Unexplained series of disappearance were also attributed to Chaonei no. 81.  There was the story of the British priest, who vanished inexplicably.  Three construction workers also disappeared overnight.  Other bizarre events were also experienced by the people who visited the haunted structure.  They claimed that they suddenly felt a strong sense of dread and uneasiness when they visited the place.  It is also strangely cold inside the building during the hot summer compared to other area around.

The investigators, who allegedly conduct an investigation on the Chaonei no. 81, supposedly saw a secret tunnel at the crypt that lead to Dashanzi which is located at the northeastern Border.  Due to the popularity of the haunted place, movie producers took interest on the legend and create a film inspired by the legends surrounding the walls of the haunted house.
